“If expectations aren't high, it's OK.”
To start with the pros. Very large complex. Spacious rooms. Good beach (like most beaches in Phu Quoc). Large pool. Deluxe Garden view King is a good size. The air conditioner in the room worked well - it was quiet and did not blow into the bed. Vinpearl Grand World is conveniently a 10-minute walk away. Unfortunately, there is no sidewalk there and you have to walk on the highway, but there are few cars there. You can also get to Vinpearl Grand World from the hotel by free bus, but it runs on a fixed schedule and quite rarely and often the bus is so full that it can no longer fit in. You can also get there by free large golf carts that move around, but they are the same as the paid ones and I did not understand what to distinguish between free and paid ones, or maybe some of the free car drivers tried to sell their service to tourists for a fee. The a’la carte Italian restaurant Atlantis is good, but last year it was better. If you book very early and monitor various booking channels, you can even find an offer that is more than 50% cheaper than the official price. Now the cons. If it were a 3-star hotel, there would be no complaints and there would be a lot to praise, but from a 5-star hotel, you would expect above all a higher quality of service and better organization. Since we arrived at a very good hotel, the shock was so great at first that we were ready to leave the next day and lose the entire cost of the 5-day reservation. Since the room in a good hotel nearby was quite expensive at that time, we decided to try one more day and fortunately we still adapted and stayed there. We remembered the main rules for staying in mass tourism hotels – you have to go to breakfast as soon as the restaurant opens and you have to book a place on the beach at least at 07:00 in the morning. We stayed at this hotel at the same time a year ago and thought we knew what to expect, but this time there were significantly more guests and that changed the situation significantly. There are too many people at breakfast and too few staff. There are two breakfast restaurants and they are large and it seems that there is a lot of staff, but there are too many people and the staff cannot cope with such a crowd. It was difficult to find a free table and when you found a table, it was not cleaned and you had to wait a very long time before it was cleaned and then you had to wait a long time before knives and forks were brought. There was always at least 20 people in line at the omelette station and there were always about 10 people in line behind the coffee machine. The choice of food seemed large at first glance, but when you started looking, it turned out that there was not much to choose from for European tastes. Although 90% of the guests at this hotel were from Europe, the choice of food is oriented towards the tastes of different Asian people, for example, there were 10 types of rice prepared in different ways. The better fruits and more popular dishes were constantly running out and were not updated quickly enough, and some fruits were no longer available at all half an hour after the restaurant opened. There is a real shortage of machine coffee at this breakfast and is only available to those who are ready to stand in a lively queue for up to half an hour, and this hard-to-get coffee turned out to be quite tasteless. Last year there were also some problems with breakfast, but now things are much worse. If your goal is to spend a beach holiday, then you may be disappointed, unless you are ready to go to the beach at 7:00 in the morning. The beach itself has good sand and a comfortable entrance to the water, but it is very crowded. The number of sun loungers on the beach has been significantly increased compared to last year, but it was not possible to find a free sun lounger.
