“Pretty Good! Potentially an awkward setup though. ”
I've stayed at some pretty rough places, and I'm happy to say that this isn't one of them! The location is pretty great, you're about a 10 minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera which is a breathtaking Temple that I would highly recommend, as well as fairly close to the Kyoto National Museum. You're also only around 20-25 minutes walk away from some really good shopping and nightlife. The hostel has pretty much everything you could need, although, things like towels, razors, toothbrushes, etc. are all purchasable, and not included with your stay. That really isn't a dealbreaker for me, but I figured it should be known. The hostel also has a little bar and cafe in the same area that you check-in. I didn7t get the chance to check this out, but it's a nice bonus if you're interested! I've stayed in quite a few hostels, and the majority of them have been of the Capsule Hotel/dormitory variety, so I feel like I have a decent idea of what makes a good one, and what makes a bad one. The bedding was fairly standard, and the beds were comfortable enough, however, I noticed there was a bit of a disparity when it came to layouts, and things like that. What I mean by this is that multiple of the beds in the room I stayed in featured a little extra room at the foot of the bed, allowing for you to keep your luggage there, or leave something on a table, or even change if you fancy crouching down while you do so. Not all of the beds had this additional space, but tbh, I didn't think it was that big of a deal. There was a rather awkward feature with my bed however. My bed was located at the very end of the hallway in my room, as far as possible from the door, and it was actually slightly inlayed a little closer to the wall (it seemed, given the fact that I didn't get the extra space in my cot. My bed was right up against the window, and if I wasn't careful, I could pull the window curtain while sleeping and unintentionally get hit by sunlight. But again, that isn't that big of a deal. The thing that I thought was weird was the placement of the emergency ladder. I know that every hotel needs one, I know that you need to have to store them somewhere, but the placement of the rather large emergency ladder was right by my bed. In fact it slightly blocked my entrance to my bed. I was able to still get in and out of my bed with little to no issue, but I could imagine someone who was larger than me, or who had any sort of mobility issues would probably have a super hard time getting in and out. All around pretty decent place, but you do have to rely on luck of the draw when it comes to sleeping situations.
