A really great place. Beautiful beach, lovely swimming pools. We booked the Superior villa with garden view, and were not impressed. The villa, a;though full of character and located among trees, smelled strongly of mildew and was a bit on a shabby side. We asked to be moved to the new complex, which was character-free, but clean, new, no bugs or smells. The staff was very accommodating. Good breakfast, lovely pools.
We paid €*** per night, and for that price, the hotel was excellent. We stayed for three nights. The staff were very friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. The towels had a slightly unusual smell, but this was the only minor issue that could be improved. We will recommend!
first of all I would like to say that I do not agree with the opinions of various people who spent their holidays here. The staff of this hotel is very helpful, always smiling and helpful.There is a cat in the hotel that is very friendly to people. There was a situation when I wanted to give him food and I was looking for him, so the staff brought him to my room.my room was cleaned every day and I didn't see any ants as other people described, a new air con was installed in the room Superior Villa type .I will remember my stay here very well and I will definitely come back to this place.
I was worried about the place after seeing the recent reviews, but my room was great. I was in a building not bungalows, it was clean, no bugs or any issues. It is old, true, and in need of renovation, but for the price it was ok. I would recommend. Breakfast was ok, nothing special but not bad. Coffee from the machine was actually good. Service is average, I sat in the bar for 1hr and noone came to ask if I want anything (I didn't otherwise I'd go to the bar myself, but found it strange that the waiter was right beside me and didn't even acknowledge I was there). So if this is important to you, stay somewhere else. I just wanted a nice clean bedroom ans relaxing on the beach, for that it was perfect.

“This is a great option on Koh Lanta”
After reading the various reviews online about this resort, we were a little unsure about what we were in for. Here is our take, for what it's worth, on the 10 nights we spent at Royal Lanta... Rooms - we stayed in one of the family suites that sits beside the pool near reception. The room was generally really clean. Housekeeping came in and tidied up and replaced towels any time we asked, usually every 3 days or so otherwise we simply hung the do not disturb sign on the door. They would have come every day if we wanted. Every day we were given 4 or 5 bottles of drinking water which was a nice touch. We did have some big chunky ants in the bathroom coming from the floor boards on day one. Went to Big C and bought some ant/bug spray. They never came back. Otherwise, no bugs. Several people have commented on the sewer smell. It is a real thing but seems very isolated. In our case it was very strong as we walked to our room. Could not smell it from the balcony but definitely as we walked to the room each time. Otherwise we did not notice it. Staff - super polite, very kind, and very helpful. Ying was the reception manager as far as we could tell and she always helped out when she could. Nut was the overall manager I believe and he seems to be doing everything he can to get the resort to a better standard than it sounds like it has been in the past year our so. Ya Ya at the travel desk helped us book tours, rent a car and organize transport. Everyone we met was helpful and lovely! Breakfast - it was included in our room price and we thought it was pretty decent. It isn't 5 star dining but we could get a great omelet, toast, fruit, yogurt, cereal, muslie and a selection of rotating hot dishes day to day. There is an outstanding breakfast/coffee shop called Oasis next door if you need an alternative. Location - calm beautiful water, quite beach, incredible sunsets. Walkable to Mini Big C, 711, laundry, and a couple dozen really good restaurants. Verdict - I completely understand why some people were let down and their reviews reflect that. The place does need some work. That said, it appears to us that the current staff and management are trying every day to make positive progress. A board broke on one of the walkways for example and was fixed within an hour at most. There is some deferred maintenance, but overall I would say it is in decent shape. Originally we booked 5 nights. Our kids and ourselves liked it so much we extended another 5 and we were sad to go!
