We stayed here after a few nights at Onyado Nono, and honestly, this felt like a much calmer and more relaxing alternative. Both hotels have similar onsen-style facilities, but this one stood out for being far less crowded while still offering great amenities and service. The highlight for us was definitely the bath facilities — there are five private baths (amazing for couples!) plus the usual gendered public onsens. Everything was spotless and beautifully maintained, and it never felt busy or rushed like it can at Onyado Nono. The atmosphere here is much more peaceful, which really adds to the experience. We also loved all the little “extras” that made our stay feel special — things like being able to grab extra pillows on each floor, renting a yukata (which we wore and absolutely loved — it really made us feel immersed in Japanese culture), though these both go quite quickly! Of course there is still the free nightly ramen and Yakult/matcha drinks each morning. These thoughtful touches really set the hotel apart. Our room felt newer and more high-quality than the one we had at Onyado Nono — clean, spacious, and comfortable. The staff were polite, kind, and always happy to help. If there’s one downside, it’s the breakfast, which was just okay — plenty of variety but nothing particularly memorable. Onyado Nono’s food was tastier overall, though it also came with big crowds. The location is a bit further out of Kyoto, so you’ll need to take a bus into the city, but it’s not too inconvenient unless you’re travelling with luggage. Overall, if you’re tossing up between Onyado Nono or here but want something more peaceful, with private baths and charming extras, this is the perfect choice.
I recently stayed at Kyoto Umekoji Kadensho and had a wonderful experience that far exceeded my expectations. One of the highlights was definitely the private bath facility — it was exceptionally clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. The private onsen options offered a peaceful and relaxing retreat after a day of sightseeing, and the overall environment was incredibly soothing. The hotel also provided a variety of thoughtful amenities that made the stay even more enjoyable. There was a free-flow of ice pops and lactic acid drinks, which were perfect refreshments, especially after a hot bath. In the evening, they served complimentary late-night noodles — a cozy touch that felt very warm and welcoming. Other facilities were equally impressive, including a relaxing lounge area, a selection of yukatas to wear within the hotel, and a comfortable atmosphere that blended traditional Kyoto charm with modern comforts. The attention to detail and hospitality from the staff truly stood out. Besides that, I also highly recommend trying the matcha drink available at the hotel — it’s absolutely delicious and tastes amazing! It's a small detail, but it truly added to the authentic Kyoto experience. Overall, Kyoto Umekoji Kadensho offers an exceptional combination of comfort, cleanliness, and hospitality, making it a perfect place to unwind in Kyoto. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, authentic, and well-cared-for stay.
Once you stay at this hotel, it will be hard for any other hotel to compare. The staff are welcoming from the moment you arrive, and the comfort begins immediately with the removal of your shoes on the tatami flooring and assistance with your luggage. The amenities are exception. There are not only free drinks in the lobby such as matcha, but also complimentary sweets, noodles, and ice cream. The option to choose a different pillow was a nice touch, and the variety of yukatas was impressive. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. The only thing you’ll regret is not booking it. I’ve unfortunately just left, but I’ll be thinking about the amazing experience for a long time—and dreaming about the breakfast every day. You simply can’t beat this hotel when it comes to amenities and its convenient location near the station.
I stayed here with my mom for four days, and it’s hands down the best hotel we’ve stayed at in Kyoto. The private onsens were spotless and well-maintained, and our room was always perfectly tidied each day. The front desk staff were warm, helpful, and made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. The location is a bit far from Kyoto Station, but there’s a nearby train station just a few stops away, which makes getting around convenient enough. The park next to the hotel is also a lovely spot for a peaceful morning or evening stroll. I especially loved the thoughtful amenities, matcha on tap, a variety of teas, and complimentary soba and popsicles, all of which added to the relaxing experience. Just a small note: the hotel doesn’t provide a luggage scale, so it’s best to bring your own if you need one. Overall, our stay was wonderful, and we’d definitely love to come back.

“I highly recommend this accommodation to everyone as it has a very high satisfaction rate.”
Location: It is located right next to JR Umekoji-Kotoni Station. It's only one stop from Kyoto Station, making it easily accessible from the airport or Osaka. When heading towards Kawaramachi/Gion, it's a bit disappointing that you have to walk to the nearest bus stop, the Aquariums Stop, to catch a bus. Nearby Restaurant: A restaurant opened in the hotel complex in November where I had chashu ramen and tantanmen. The rich broth was delicious. I also remember there was a hamburger shop besides the ramen shop. There are shops nearby where you can find fresh sushi as the area has a fish market (wholesale). I recommend checking out places with good Google ratings when you arrive. Breakfast and Food: Make sure to include breakfast with your stay. You can taste Kyoto-style obanzai side dishes (pickles and simmered dishes), and the grilled fish and pork belly served with care were really tasty. The fruits and desserts were clean and light, yet delicious, so I indulged. In the lobby, there are various teas and coffees available 24/7, and the matcha was particularly good. In the lounge in front of the sauna, yogurt, ice cream (matcha, soda, milk flavor), and even soy sauce ramen are provided for free at different times. This was the first place I encountered that provided such generous offerings during my trip to Japan. Facilities: From the lobby, you take off your shoes, which was appealing to Koreans who are used to sitting on the floor. I would recommend it for families traveling with children. The room size was spacious enough for four single beds and two large suitcases, which was very satisfying. The large public bath was well maintained, and basic amenities like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cleansing foam, and cleansing oil were provided. There seemed to be skincare and lotion available in the makeup room. There are five private baths available, and you can check the photos of each bath in the waiting area before using them. However, there are no separate shower facilities. And perhaps because there are no shower facilities, it seems they maintain the water quality with bleach. As soon as I entered the bath, there was a strong smell of bleach, so I only soaked a little before coming out. The water was very slippery, but the bleach smell made it uncomfortable. This was the most disappointing aspect. Shopping: You can purchase Kyoto souvenirs like "Maiko's Dream" perfume and body/hand cream at the souvenir shop within the accommodation. There’s no need to go to the souvenir shops near Kyoto Station or Kiyomizu-dera. However, it was a bit disappointing that they didn't have solid perfume. Overall, it was a very satisfying accommodation for a trip with kids. It’s good to refer to the hotel guide pamphlet provided in Korean at check-in for your visit. The nearby railway museum was so enjoyable that the children wanted to go back, and it was large enough that the entrance fee felt worth it. This is a five-star accommodation I would want to choose for my next trip to Kyoto.
