“Acceptable”
I need to start off with mentioning that I spent quite a bit of time killing cockroaches. They're the small thin brown cockroaches, and there were 11 of them. I could only kill 9 or 10. They kept coming out likely from the two holes in the ceiling in the bathroom. I believe some of them were already in the room and hiding, since there were so many baby cockroaches. As soon as I walked in, I saw one baby cockroach. I only stayed for 2 days and one night. In a matter of five hours, I had already encountered 5 or 6 of them. My shoe became a weapon. Later on, my receipt had become another weapon. I threw away a plastic spoon since a cockroach was resting on it, while it was in the bathroom in a bowl. The Cornell kettle was a disaster, it's already falling into pieces, the lid wouldn't close well and so I had to fix it before using. The water though, tasted very strange and different, I couldn't quite say what....but I felt uncomfortable and uneasy drinking it. I tried cleaning the kettle, and some brown/rust or whatever came off, but I couldn't handle it anymore. I bought two 1.5L of water from Sheong Shiong nearby. Unfortunately, even though, I needed hot water to prepare some meals, I decided not to because of the kettle. There is no bar fridge, and that was the most inconvenient so I couldn't store anything for later especially with these cockroaches. It's good if you're prepared to eat out and finish every meal if you do eat in your room. There is no microwave facility to heat up your food so beware of that. The two small cups of water they offered for the price that was paid during a Friday to Sunday morning checkout, was not worth it. They were sealed cups of water not even bottles. The straws weren't strong enough to poke through so they broke and bended. There is a large bottle of unknown body cleanser that you're given to use for everything. Mainly as hand soap I guess because I don't know if anyone would really use it as shower gel or shampoo. There are a lot of male guests who appear to be workers which can make a single female guests quite wary. Because of the location, Geylang, being close to a red light district, it did concern me. especially as a Singaporean. However, it seems that there are a lot of foreigners and the spot that the hotel is located in, there were still upscale apartments and private houses so it's not bad at all. It's safe to leave home at late hours or early morning. The supermarket closeby is also 24hours. There are a few eateries and 7 Eleven that are 24hrs as well. It's not sketchy as it's not in the exact spot for red light district operations that take place. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless absolutely necessary and the prices for the weekend is over a $100, it's definitely not worth that. In my opinion, one night stay should be about $40-$55 max. Rated it a little higher because there is an attached toilet. I have to mention that the internet went down in the middle of the night and never came back on especially for the level 5 rooms. You can however connect to the level 6 and 4 internet. The worst part of the stay was there was some woman on the 5th level who was of Indian ethnicity singing for the longest time late at night and early in the morning, like she was auditioning. I've only encountered this type of behaviour in cheaper hotels and only once. It's like it's either the staff who hotel guest, who can't seem to be considerate that not everyone wants to hear you sing or be disruptive. Guests are here for their own purpose and whether they are sleeping or not, no one asked for forced entertainment. It's annoying that some people don't even realise how loud they're being. I would not recommend this place. The lady who cleaned did clean and makeup the bed and all that but the cockroaches, and kettle just couldn't make up for her work. The only toiletries you've given are toothpaste and toothbrush, that's it.
